Laser hair removal on the face uses concentrated light to target the pigment (melanin) in hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future growth. It is most effective on darker, coarser hair. Eligibility Best Candidates: Those with dark hair and light skin (high contrast). New Tech: Modern lasers (like Nd:YAG) can safely treat darker skin tones. Ineligible: It does not work on blonde, red, grey, or white hair because there is no pigment for the laser to "see." Hormonal Note: If hair growth is caused by PCOS or hormonal imbalances, results may require more frequent maintenance. Preparation (Before) Shave Only: Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours prior. Do not wax, pluck, or thread for 4 weeks before, as the root must be present for the laser to work. No Sun: Avoid tanning or sun exposure for 2–4 weeks. Clean Skin: Arrive with a face free of makeup, creams, or oils. Stop Actives: Discontinue Retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and Vitamin C for 5–7 days. The Procedure Step 1: You and the technician wear protective eyewear. Step 2: A cooling gel or built-in cooling spray is applied to protect the skin. Step 3: The laser pulses across the skin. You’ll feel a sensation like a warm "rubber band snap." Duration: Facial treatments are quick, usually taking only 5–15 minutes. Aftercare (After) Sun Guard: Use SPF 50 daily; facial skin is extremely prone to hyperpigmentation after laser. Cool Down: Avoid hot showers, saunas, and heavy exercise for 24–48 hours. Gentle Care: Use only mild cleansers and moisturizers. Avoid makeup for 24 hours. Shedding: Treated hairs will look like they are growing back 1–2 weeks later; this is actually the dead hair pushing out (shedding). Do not pull them; let them fall out. Expectations Timeline: You need 6–10 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart to catch hair in the active growth phase. Results: Expect a 10%–25% reduction in hair after the first session. Eventually, hair becomes finer, lighter, and much slower to grow.
